Malvolio's
Mistreatment
This workshop uses Malvolio from Twelfth Night to explore issues of friendship and bullying. As Malvolio is a character who seems to bring mistreatment upon himself, the idea of bullying can be explored in all its complexities and questions asked about how to deal with people we do not get along with.
Conflict - Chaos or
Opportunity
This workshop uses clashes within Shakespeare's plays to explore how to deal with real life conflicts. By looking at the pain and the excitement of conflict, young people can begin to consider how they deal with conflict in their own lives and whether the models they see in Shakespeare’s plays are to be emulated or used as examples of how not to deal with argument and difference.
Choices &
Consequences
How do we make choices and how do our choices change our lives? Measure for Measure and The Merchant of Venice are two plays that illustrate this issue clearly. This workshop can be used as a focus for specific types of questions (for example about relationships) or can consider a range of life’s choices and how we often have to live with uncertainty when facing some of the most important choices in our lives.
" These
workshops have been a real success at Wellington. Not only
have they brought Shakespeare to life for our year 9
students, but they have given the students a profound
insight into developing community relationships. Really
excellent."
